Guide: Connect to a Wi-Fi
🔒 Security is Our Top Priority
The office Wi-Fi network is a gateway to critical company resources. Adhering to security protocols not only protects your personal information but also contributes to the safety of our entire corporate system.
Be Aware of Potential Threats
Stay vigilant against common Wi-Fi attacks:
- Evil Twin Access Points: Attackers create a fraudulent Wi-Fi network with a name similar to our official one to trick you into connecting. Once connected, they can intercept your traffic to steal credentials and data.
- Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) Attacks: An attacker secretly intercepts and potentially alters the communication between your device and the Wi-Fi access point.
- Malware & Viruses: Connecting to an insecure network can expose your device to infection from viruses, ransomware, or other malicious software.
📶 How to Connect to Your Office Wi-Fi
Please follow the steps below to connect to the secure Wi-Fi network at your specific office location.
1. Identify the Correct Network Name (SSID)
It is crucial to connect only to the official company network. We have a unique, secure Wi-Fi name for each office.
- Hanoi Office (Skylight Tower): The official SSID is sgs-eng-xxx
- Da Nang Office (Phi Long Building): The official SSID is gearinc-xxx
- Ho Chi Minh City Office (Pearl Plaza): The official SSID is gearinc-xxx
Important: Always double-check the network name before connecting. If you see any suspicious Wi-Fi names (e.g., "Free_Skylight_WiFi", "PhiLong_Guest_Unsecure"), DO NOT connect. Please report them to the IT Department immediately.
2. Enter the Password
The Wi-Fi password will be provided to you by your manager or the IT Department during your onboarding.
- Password Confidentiality: Do not share the Wi-Fi password with anyone, including non-employees, visitors, or guests. Visitors should be directed to the designated "Guest" network if available.
3. Connection Steps by Device
For Laptops (Windows & macOS)
- Click the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom-right corner (Windows) or the top-right corner (macOS) of your screen.
- Select the correct network name for your office (sgs-eng-xxx, gearinc-xxx, or gearinc-xxx) from the list of available networks.
- Click "Connect".
- When prompted, enter the password provided and follow any on-screen instructions.
For Mobile Devices (iOS & Android)
- Open Settings.
- Tap on Wi-Fi.
- Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled and select the correct network name for your office (sgs-eng-xxx, gearinc-xxx, or gearinc-xxx).
- Enter the password and tap "Join" or "Connect".
⚠️ Troubleshooting Connection Issues
If you are unable to connect or the connection is unstable, please try these steps:
- Toggle Wi-Fi Off and On: The simplest and often most effective fix.
- Restart Your Device: Rebooting your laptop or phone can resolve many minor issues.
- "Forget" the Network and Reconnect:
- Go to your device's Wi-Fi settings.
- Select our network and choose the "Forget This Network" option.
- Follow the connection steps again from the beginning.
If the problem persists, please contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.
🛡️ What to Do If You Suspect a Security Issue
If you notice any unusual activity on your device after connecting to the Wi-Fi (e.g., strange pop-ups, slow performance, security warnings), take these steps immediately:
- Disconnect from the Wi-Fi immediately.
- Do not turn off your device. Leave it as is so the IT team can investigate.
- Report the incident to the IT Department right away. Describe what you observed and contact us via the IT support email or our dedicated help desk number.
